  1. A.    Technical Assessment and Detailed Design:
  • Organize detailed topographical, hydrological, and geotechnical surveys of the Roodh Mulazai catchment to contribute engineering designs.
  • Lead the technical feasibility assessment and detailed engineering design for a range of interventions, including but not limited to:
    • Revival of Traditional Systems: Rehabilitation of Karez systems, including mother wells, underground tunnels, and surface outlets.
    • Groundwater Recharge: Design of Managed Aquifer Recharge (MAR) structures such as check dams, delay action dams, infiltration galleries, percolation tanks, and injection wells.
    • Watershed Management: Design of soil and water conservation structures like contour bunds, terracing, gully plugs, and small diversion weirs.
    • Water Harvesting: Design of micro-catchments, farm ponds, and other rainwater harvesting structures.
    • Prepare detailed Bill of Quantities (BoQ), cost estimates, technical specifications, and tender documents for the approved interventions.
    • Ensure all designs incorporate climate resilience and disaster risk reduction principles, learning from the 2022 flood events.
  1. B.    Implementation Support and Supervision:
  • Provide technical oversight and day-to-day supervision of construction works carried out by contractors or communities, ensuring adherence to design specifications, quality standards, and safety protocols.
  • Certify stages of work completion and verify quantities for payments to contractors.
  • Identify and resolve any technical issues arising during implementation promptly and effectively.
  • Monitor and ensure the proper use of materials and equipment on site.

 

 

 

 

  1. C.    Community Engagement and Capacity Building:
  • Work closely with the project team, social mobilizers, and the project's community engagement specialists to integrate technical solutions with community needs and practices especially women need.
  • Conduct technical training sessions for community members VOs and COs, and local artisans on the operation and maintenance (O&M) of the structures constructed.
  • Facilitate community participation through social mobilization team (Male and Female) in site selection, planning, and implementation of interventions agreed jointly with community to induce ownership and long-term sustainability.
  1. D.    Monitoring, Reporting, and Knowledge Management:
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive database of all pilot project activities, including pre- and post-construction data (e.g., photos, GPS points, water levels).
  • Monitor the hydrological impact of interventions (e.g., changes in groundwater levels, increased spring flows) in collaboration with the monitoring team.
  • Prepare regular progress reports, including technical aspects of implementation, challenges faced, and solutions adopted.
  • Contribute to the documentation of lessons learned, best practices, and success stories for replication in other catchments within the Pishin Lora Basin and beyond.

 

  1. 1.     Qualifications and Experience
  2. A.    Essential:  
  • Master’s degree in civil engineering, Water Resources Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, or a directly related field.
  • Minimum of 15 years of proven professional experience in water resources engineering, with a focus on water management and RWH in arid and semi-arid regions.
  • Demonstrable hands-on experience in the design, supervision, and implementation of:
  • Karez or similar traditional water system design, construction and rehabilitation.
  • Check dams, infiltration galleries, and other groundwater recharge structures.
  • Watershed management and soil conservation measures.
  • Significant experience in community-based participatory approaches, with a proven record to work effectively with rural communities.
  • Proficiency in engineering design software (e.g., AutoCAD, GIS applications like QGIS) and surveying techniques.
  • Excellent analytical, report writing and communication skills in English.
  1. B.    Desirable:
  • Prior work experience in Balochistan or similar socio-cultural contexts in Pakistan.
  • Experience working on donor-funded projects, particularly those funded by the EU.
  • Knowledge of local languages.
  • Experience in monitoring the impact of water-related interventions.
