1.     About WaterAid

Clean water, decent toilets, and hygiene are three essentials that help people lead dignified and healthy lives. They should be normal for everyone, but for millions of people, they are not. WaterAid Pakistan is determined to make clean water, decent toilets, and good hygiene a normal part of everyday life for everyone, everywhere within a generation. 2.     Context and Background  

WaterAid, in its mission to address the current and future water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) needs, we have adopted a comprehensive approach that encompasses public health and climate adaptation strategies. We implement a range of interventions including hygiene behaviour change, menstrual hygiene management, rural and urban sanitation, safe water systems, and WASH in institutions such as healthcare facilities and schools.

3.     Purpose of this consultancy

WaterAid Pakistan intends to hire the consultancy services of an individual photographer for high-end photography of the WaterAid’s impact in the communities with a particular focus on the aspects highlighting the stories of change.

4.     Key Objectives

  • Capture Visual Impact: To create compelling, high-quality images that effectively showcase the transformative impact of WaterAid's projects and initiatives across different communities.
  • Enhance Brand Visibility: To produce visually captivating photographs that align with WaterAid’s brand guidelines and enhance its visibility in key materials such as coffee table books, calendars, annual reports, and diaries.
  • Document Success Stories: To visually document stories of change, highlighting the personal and community-wide benefits of WaterAid’s work, particularly in relation to water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH).
  • Support Advocacy and Fundraising: To deliver a set of powerful images that can be used in advocacy campaigns and fundraising efforts, encouraging greater support and engagement from donors, partners, and stakeholders.
  • Showcase Cultural and Environmental Contexts: To represent the diverse cultural, environmental, and geographical contexts in which WaterAid operates, ensuring authenticity and resonance with target audiences.
  • Provide a Visual Archive: To develop a comprehensive visual archive that WaterAid can draw from for future use in promotional materials, media engagement, and digital platforms.
  • Highlight Key Milestones: To visually capture WaterAid’s key achievements and milestones over the years, reflecting the organisation's progress in improving access to clean water, sanitation, and hygiene services.
  • Ensure Ethical Representation: To adhere to ethical photography practices, ensuring that all subjects are portrayed with dignity and respect, and that informed consent is obtained where required.
  • Deliver Versatile Imagery: To provide a range of images that can be adapted for multiple formats, from large-scale prints for events to digital assets for social media and websites.

5.     Deliverables

Provision of Portrait Images of people and Landscape Images of infrastructure identified by the partner NGO’s staff.

Portrait images includes Close crop, head and shoulders, shallow depth of field, eyes to camera, emotive but with agency.

 

Just over half body portrait, can have small amount of movement in the body or holding something but doesn’t have to. Landscape/horizontal orientation

 

Full body environmental portrait taken from the same level as the person (or very slightly below). Try to find a location which add context to the person’s story. Vertical/portrait and horizontal orientation.

 

Supporting documentary imagery of the individual (ideas below but this will vary depending on the person’s circumstances)

  1. Daily life (spending time with family, cooking, studying etc)
  2. Collecting water
  3. Washing with water (hands, faces, children etc)
  4. Washing dishes/plates with water
  5. Harvesting or planting crops or other work
  6. Any other images that support the project

 

Action Photos/ and the facilities

October 31, 2024

Provision of at least 100 edited images (after color correction, light correction, appropriate cropping and image straighening)

November 10, 2024

 

 

6.     Key Features of Deliverables:

  1. Please provide a range of primarily portrait and landscape format images.
  2. Specs: Please supply the images ideally 5 - 10mb jpeg files.
  3. The raw uneditied photos should be delivered without any repetition.
  4. The raw files should be shared via hard drive.
  5. The photos should be clicked after obtaining written consent from the respective individuals or groups.
  6. The photographer will provide one liner captions for the final edited photos (provided in the format given by WaterAid).
  7. The photographer is responsible for filing the consent forms with the required details like Full Name, Age, Location, Identity Marker and duly signed or thumb marked.
  8. The consent forms will be provided by WaterAid’s team before commencing of the travel.
  9. The photographer will be required to complete essential online safeguarding and representation trainings as part of our Do No Harm before start of the assignment.
  10. The photographer will bear the cost of logistics and other required equipments.
  11. The photographer will be provided support of the partner’s staff in the field areas to coordinate and finalize the travel plans.
  12. 12.    No photo will be acceptable without supported consent form.

7.     Timeline:

The deadline for submission is as follow:

  • Raw Unedited photos with consent forms: October 31, 2024
  • Final Edited Photos: November 10, 2024

8.     Supervision

The consultant will be reporting to the Communications Coordinator from WaterAid Pakistan.

9.     Application/ Proposal

The proposal should contain the following:

  • An expression of interest (Max two pages) explaining your interest, experience and capacity for the consultancy against each of the selection criteria. Please do explain how your skills match the tasks detailed in the job description.
  • Individuals profile/ portfolio containing similar assignment materials submitted in soft form.
  • Sample of printed photograph/article/case study for checking the final output.
  • Financial proposal (In separate envelops), quoted as key budget heads/ level of efforts with budget narrative.

10.  Desired qualifications, specialized knowledge, or experience

a)    Qualifications and Experience:

  • At least five years of proven experience in professional photography with proven editing skills via software.
  • Experience of at least 3 years in covering water, sanitation, and hygiene-related social, environmental, and development subjects such climate change, education and women related issues.
  • Experience of at least 5 years working with the developmental and humanitarian INGOs.

b)    The consultant must share the contact details of the two most recent clients for cross reference

c)     Language Proficiency

Fluency in English and Urdu (Punjabi, Pashto and Sindhi will be advantage)

d)    Checklist

Attach the checklist of the required content and criteria on the front page of proposal.

e)    Evaluation criteria

Technical offers will be evaluated according to the “Evaluation Criteria” below and the technical qualification threshold point is “70”.

11.   Schedule of Payments

a) 1st tranche 20% of the total value of the contract at the submission of field plan approved by WaterAid

b) 2nd tranche 80% of the total value of the assignment at the submission of all the deliverables as approved by WaterAid.
