Position Title: Health & Hygiene Promoter

Location: Jacobabad, Sindh

Project: WASH & Livelihood Support for Affected People

Reports to: BCC Officer / Project Coordinator


Job Purpose

The Health & Hygiene Promoters will be the primary field-level link between the project and the affected populations in Jacobabad. Their role is to drive community-level behavior change through direct engagement, ensuring that the water supply schemes provided are used safely and that hygiene practices are adopted to reduce waterborne disease risks.


Key Responsibilities

1. Community Awareness & Mobilization

  • Conduct cascade community awareness sessions on water storage and good hygiene practices, contributing to the project goal of sessions.
  • Promote improved household hygiene behaviors to mitigate the risks of waterborne diseases within the community.
  • Assist in the celebration of International Days, such as World Water Day and Hand Washing Day, to mobilize large groups of people.
  • Distribute IEC materials (leaflets, posters) during awareness sessions and ensure community members understand the visual messaging.

2. WASH Support & Monitoring

  • Conduct regular household visits to monitor the status of community water supply schemes and hygiene compliance.
  • Identify and report non-functional water points or maintenance needs to the technical team to ensure consistent access to clean water.
  • Ensure that the most vulnerable groups, particularly women and children, have safe and equitable access to potable water.

3. Health & Livelihood Integration

  • Support the BCC Officer in identifying individuals for vocational and market skills training and Market Exposure Visits.
  • Provide basic health and nutrition messaging related to kitchen gardening, emphasizing how home-grown vegetables improve household food diversity.
  • Participate in community mobilization for activities

4. Data Collection & Reporting

  • Collect field-level data to ensure community feedback is captured without pre-determined goals.
  • Maintain daily logs of households reached and sessions conducted, ensuring all activities are documented as purely humanitarian interventions.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Public Health, or a related field.
  • Experience: 1–2 years of field experience in community mobilization or hygiene promotion, preferably in Jacobabad.
  • Technical Skills: Ability to facilitate group discussions and deliver clear, persuasive hygiene messages.
  • Languages: Fluency in Sindhi is mandatory; proficiency in other local languages is highly desirable.
  • Local Knowledge: Residents of Project area will be given preference to ensure local context and language nuances are respected.

Job Description: Design Engineer / WASH Officer

Position Title: Design Engineer / WASH Officer

Job Purpose

The Design Engineer / WASH Officer is responsible for the technical assessment, design, and high-quality execution of water infrastructure. This role ensures that affected population  have safe and equitable access to potable water through the rehabilitation of community water supply schemes, adhering to strict engineering and humanitarian standards.


Key Responsibilities

1. Technical Assessment & Design

  • Conduct detailed technical assessments of non-functional community water supply schemes to identify rehabilitation requirements.
  • Prepare detailed engineering designs, Bill of Quantities (BoQs), and cost estimates for the rehabilitation of community water supply schemes.
  • Ensure all designs prioritize climate-resilience and water-efficient practices to withstand the specific environmental hazards.

2. Infrastructure Rehabilitation & Quality Control

  • Supervise the on-site rehabilitation work of water schemes to ensure they provide consistent access to clean, potable water.
  • Ensure all construction and rehabilitation activities comply with SPHERE standards and local Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) protocols.
  • Manage contractors and technical vendors, ensuring materials used meet the specified quality and the project stays within the allocated budget for schemes.

 

 

3. Capacity Building & Technical Support

  • Provide technical input for the Training of Trainers (ToT) on water storage and hygiene practices to ensure messaging aligns with the technical capabilities of the infrastructure.
  • Support the BCC Officer in developing technical content for IEC materials related to water safety and maintenance of rehabilitated schemes.
  • Guide community-based water committees on the long-term operation and maintenance (O&M) of the rehabilitated schemes.

4. Monitoring & Reporting

  • Technically evaluate how the water supply interventions meet the actual drinking and domestic needs of the population.
  • Document technical progress and challenges, ensuring all reports reflect the purely humanitarian focus of the water interventions.
  • Monitor water quality (testing for biological and chemical contaminants) before and after the rehabilitation of schemes.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Water Resource Management, or a related engineering field.
  • Experience: 3–5 years of experience in designing and supervising WASH infrastructure projects, specifically water supply schemes.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in AutoCAD or similar design software; expertise in water-efficient practices and climate-smart engineering.
  • Languages: Proficiency in English; ability to communicate technical concepts in Sindhi is highly preferred.
  • Local Context: Strong familiarity with the water table and soil conditions in District Jacobabad.
