Purpose of the Position: The WASH Officer will support implementation of WASH-related activities including community mobilization, hygiene promotion, sanitation initiatives, technical coordination, monitoring of WASH infrastructure, and capacity building of local stakeholders in line with project objectives and community needs.
Key Responsibilities
The WASH Officer shall perform, but not be limited to, the following duties:
- Support planning, implementation, and monitoring of WASH interventions under the project.
- Coordinate with Village Councils, community groups, engineers, and field teams regarding WASH activities and infrastructure schemes.
- Conduct community awareness sessions on hygiene, sanitation, safe drinking water, and public health practices.
- Facilitate community participation in WASH-related planning and implementation processes.
- Support Community-Led Total Sanitation (CLTS) and Open Defecation Free (ODF) initiatives in target communities.
- Assist in identification, assessment, and monitoring of water supply and sanitation schemes.
- Conduct field visits to monitor functionality, quality, and utilization of WASH facilities.
- Support preparation of WASH-related reports, assessments, data collection tools, and documentation.
- Coordinate with technical teams for implementation of water supply, sanitation, and hygiene infrastructure.
- Ensure inclusion of women, children, and vulnerable groups in WASH activities and awareness sessions.
- Support hygiene promotion campaigns in schools and communities.
- Assist in maintaining records of beneficiaries, WASH facilities, and field activities.
- Support implementation of environmental and social safeguard measures related to WASH activities.
- Prepare periodic progress reports, field reports, and activity documentation.
- Perform any other task assigned by the supervisor related to project implementation.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Master degree (16 years of education) in Public Health, Environmental Sciences, Civil Engineering, Water and Sanitation Engineering, Social Sciences, Development Studies, or any other relevant discipline from a recognized institution.
- Relevant experience in WASH, public health, sanitation, hygiene promotion, or community development projects will be an added advantage.
- Experience working in rural and community-based development projects will be preferred.
- Familiarity with Community-Led Total Sanitation (CLTS), hygiene promotion approaches, and WASH programming.
- Experience in coordination with communities, local institutions, and government departments.
- Proficiency in MS Office applications and report writing.
- Experience in merged districts or similar field contexts will be an advantage.
