1. Background

The training will focus on four interconnected areas: quality seed selection and storage, Integrated Pest Management (IPM), nutrition-sensitive agriculture, and climate-resilient vegetable production.

The integrated training aims to equip women farmers with practical, low-cost, and locally adaptable agricultural techniques that can improve crop productivity, household food security, nutrition, and resilience to climate-related risks.

2. Objectives

The training aims to:

• Build women's knowledge and practical skills in the selection, cleaning, preservation, and storage of quality seeds.
• Improve participants' understanding and application of environmentally friendly Integrated Pest Management (IPM) practices.
• Promote nutrition-sensitive agriculture, kitchen gardening, and production of diverse and nutritious food at household level.
• Strengthen women's capacity in climate-resilient vegetable production, including crop planning, nursery management, crop rotation, and improved cultivation practices.
• Promote sustainable, low-cost, and locally adaptable agricultural practices to improve household food security, nutrition, and resilience to climate-related risks.

3. Roles and Responsibilities

The trainer will be responsible for:

• Develop a detailed training plan, session outlines, presentations, and practical learning materials relevant to rural women in Diamer.
• Deliver practical and participatory training on quality seed selection, cleaning, drying, preservation, and storage techniques.
• Demonstrate low-cost and locally available methods for seed saving and storage.
• Train participants on identification and management of common crop pests and diseases through biological, cultural, mechanical, and other environmentally friendly IPM approaches.
• Demonstrate safe and appropriate preparation and use of organic pest-control solutions and promote responsible use of chemical pesticides.
• Build awareness of the relationship between agriculture, household food security, and nutrition.
• Train participants on the production of diverse and nutritious vegetables and fruits using locally available resources.
• Deliver practical training on climate-resilient vegetable production, including crop planning, nursery management, seed selection, crop rotation, suitable varieties, and sustainable cultivation practices.
• Promote efficient use of water, soil conservation, and other climate-smart agricultural practices.
• Conduct practical demonstrations, group exercises, discussions, and field-based learning activities.
• Assess participants' learning through practical exercises, discussions, and/or pre- and post-training assessments.
• Maintain attendance sheets, participant records, photographs, and other required training documentation.
• Coordinate with the project team for effective planning and implementation of the training.
• Submit a final training report highlighting key activities, participants, learning outcomes, challenges, and recommendations within three days of completion of the training.

4. Qualification and Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Agronomy, Horticulture, Plant Protection, Agricultural Extension, Nutrition, Rural Development, or a related field.
• Minimum three (3) years of relevant professional experience in climate-smart agriculture, agricultural extension, farmer training, nutrition-sensitive agriculture, or related areas.
• Demonstrated experience in conducting community-based training, preferably with rural women and female farmers.
• Practical knowledge of seed management, Integrated Pest Management, vegetable production, nutrition-sensitive agriculture, and climate-resilient farming practices.
• Strong facilitation, communication, and presentation skills.
• Experience using participatory and adult-learning methodologies.
• Strong report-writing and documentation skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively in Urdu; knowledge of local languages spoken in Gilgit-Baltistan will be an added advantage.
• Willingness and ability to travel to remote project locations in District Diamer.
